Master's Voice

The RCA record company used to be represented by the image of a little fox terrier named Nipper listening intently to a phonograph or grammophone. The caption with the image read "His Master's Voice." The original portrait was painted by artist Francis Barraud who had inherited the dog, a cylinder phonograph. and some recordings of his brother Mark's voice when Mark died in the 1890's. Nipper was captivated by the sound of his original owner's voice coming from the machine.
I hope to grow to be as captivated by my Master's "voice" as He speaks to me through the Bible and through His Holy Spirit and in endless other ways, as little Nipper seemed focused on the voice emanating from the phonograph.
Tell about one way you have you heard God "speak" to you, and how did you know it was Him?

Over the years I've come to recognise the voice and the tones God uses with me.
One time in particular is when I had an accident and wrote the car off, I complained - why God, why didn't you do something, you could have stopped it? That sort of thing. To my self pity and complaints came the response 'I could've put you in a wheelchair'. His words weren't vindictive just what I needed to hear. I knew what God had been saying to me before the accident, I was just waiting for someone else to tell me too, God didn't want that, my disobedience led to whiplash yet God in his grace kept it from being worse.
God speaks, I think, in ways that an individual can recognise, He wants intimate and unique relationships with us.
I found an amusing variation of this picture and put it on my mulledmadness blog. :)

Robert,
I saw that. Poor little dog!
Kylie,
I really like what you said about each of us hearing from God in the way He knows we can recognize Him. For instance, I heard an audible and unmistakeable message letting me know about my call to the ministry. I know not everyone gets a call so obvious, but God had to know it would take "all the stops" pulled out for me to ever believe such a plan was in store for me. He's a wonder.
