Every Christian is Called to Evangelize
Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 05:46PM "Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words." -St. Francis of Assisi
Before the crucified and risen Christ ascended to heaven, He told His eleven remaining original apostles to, "Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world" (Matthew 28:19-20, CEV). This command is not intended for a select few Christians. We can't all be traveling evangelists, but every follower of Christ owns at least one testimony that will bring another soul to the feet of Jesus.
Our Savior has entrusted us to spread His good news until He returns. Nothing else we do as Christians means as much. Nothing else we do in life means anything if we are saved ourselves and don't tell somebody else how it happened.
Most of us think evangelists always run revivals or speak in front of crowds--whether in the street, from church to church, or on television. It may be so for those who have the spiritual gift of evangelism. But, whatever spiritual gift you possess, or whether or not you know your gift yet, every Christian must spread the gospel--the good news of salvation through Christ. Don't keep it to yourself. There are as many ways to communicate Christ's message as there are people who need to hear about Him. Write a letter, tell a friend, answer the questions of a seeker, or give away a Bible. Comfort the comfortless, teach a class, be a puppeteer, author a book, or find a way to support an evangelism ministry. Take the time to share the story of your Savior. And as you live your busy life, don’t get too distracted to smile. People will inquire why you're happy, and you can tell them, "Jesus."
