Spiritual Weapon: The Word of God
Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 09:27PM The Word of God is the first weapon in your spiritual arsenal, as outlined in yesterday's post, "W.E.A.P.O.N.S. of Spiritual Warfare." Over the next few days I will review the other six spiritual weapons. Later this week I will also post on how to study God's Word.
Why is it so important to know the Word of God?
The words of the Lord are pure words.-Psalm 12:6
The grass withereth the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. -Isaiah 40:8
For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.-Hebrews 4:12
Family, friends, televangelists, even your own pastor or your favorite Christian blogger can tell you anything. You have to know God's Word to know the truth. You have to study it for yourself.
The Holy Spirit inspired men to record the Word for you; the Son of God came to let you know it is alive.
Jesus was sent here by our Father God to model for us the behavior God wants from us. Christ let us know by example how we should handle it when the enemy utters to us, "I know you're hungry--here's how you can get what you need." Jesus responded to Satan, "It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word of God" (Luke 4:4). Jesus was saying, "You can't fool me, I know God's Word on this."
Measure the choices you face against the Word of God, and you will rarely doubt how to act.
