Answering God's Email
Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 06:00AM Because of a lack of time and comfort level, my husband rarely uses email, and he expects me to attend to the emails he receives. When people email him, the reply usually comes from me, with his name on it.
I try to write Benjamin's emails in his voice rather than mine, but I probably only succeed when I ask him to dictate a response. Those who don't know him well I'm sure don't recognize that the responses they get are not in my husband's words, but there's no harm because I know him well and I am always careful to only convey what he would want even if I don't convey it in the same words Benjamin would choose.
On the occasion that I complain about this small extra burden, my husband reminds me that he pays me very well for my help, though not in dollars.
God doesn't actually receive email, but He does receive prayers, and He expects His people to answer many of those prayers on His behalf--prayers for comfort, sympathy, help of many descriptions, charity, hugs, a warm coat, a loving home, a pair of shoes, a meal tomorrow, a kind word--whatever the need may be.
When we feel compelled to respond to the needs of those around us, we should do so in God's "voice"--exhibiting His attitude of love--because we are answering prayers addressed to Him and not to ourselves. Those whose prayers we help to answer need to feel God's heart in our responses, even if we don't know His exact words.
email,
in His image,
prayers,
